Job Title:  Medical Laboratory Scientist – Microbiology (Day Shift)
Location:  Charlottesville, VA
Compensation: $27.84 – $44.54 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
Schedule:  Day Shift | Full-Time

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
to join our Microbiology Department
in Charlottesville, VA. This day-shift position plays a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients through the performance of microbiological testing procedures. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, maintain high-quality standards, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform microbiological testing including culture setup, organism identification, and susceptibility testing following established protocols.

• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment according to established procedures.

• Accurately record and report test results to physicians and healthcare providers in a timely manner.

• Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

• Maintain documentation in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.

• Work effectively as part of a team to support laboratory operations and patient care initiatives.

• Comply with all infection prevention, safety, and HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications:

MLS/MLT 1 (Clinical Lab Scientist 1):

• Education:

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS-accredited program

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related science field

• Experience:

  • No prior laboratory experience required

• Certification:

  • ASCP or equivalent certification required within 24 months of hire

MLS/MLT 2 (Clinical Lab Scientist 2):

• Education (one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s Degree with completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLS/CLS program

  • OR Master’s/PhD in Biology, Chemistry, or related science

  • OR Bachelor’s in Biology, Chemistry, or related science with 3 years
    of clinical lab experience

  • OR Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS-accredited program with 4 years
    of clinical lab experience

• Certification:

  • ASCP or equivalent certification required within 24 months of hire
